The appointment of Notaries is made by the Supreme Court of NSW and the suitability for appointment is determined by the Legal Professional Admission Board.
A Notary is an officer of the law who hold a Solicitor’s Practising Certificate. Generally speaking, a Notary Public authenticates documents and provide certificates of the due execution of such documents, authenticated by his/her signature and seal. A Notary is invested with an official and international character that is recognised by the laws of all civilised nations.
For the average Notary, about 95% of the Notary's functions will comprise of verifying signatures or authenticating documents for use overseas.
